After several more calls from them I asked to talk to this person's supervisor. I called my attorney and he told me to just ignore them. Told her I get all the mail and every bill gets paid when it is supposed to get paid and there were no outstanding debts.

Asking to speak to someone who had the authority to talk to them about his estate.

Hopefully this is the end of this particular agency trying to collect a debt on a deceased relative.Ĭalls came through several months after my husband's death. So far, I have not received any additional calls. Most of the time, these bottom-feeders will try to threaten, intimidate and harass you over the phone until somebody at some point settles the outstanding debt(s), usually involving immediate family members. I was then informed that they would be sending me two letters in the mail confirming that they could not collect the debt due to the above circumstances.įortunately, I had lucked out on the second call and received somebody who was actually polite. Having done so, I explained to the guy that there were no administrators, executors, probate/probate proceedings and, absolutely no assets of/belonging to the deceased. They then asked me to verify my name and the date of death of the deceased. They were looking to collect on a debt in excess of $2,700+.Īfter the standard notification that the call was being monitored and recorded, they first explained to me that nobody is responsible for paying the deceased's debt(s) by law and that this was just merely an attempt at doing so. Recently, a relative of mine had passed away about three months ago and I received a call twice within the same day from this agency.
